Points of Return: An Ongoing Project

Points of Return is an ever evolving exhibition project in which 27 international artists explore wide ranging aspects of the climate emergency, offering commentary & creative nature-based strategies.

After the success of an online version of the exhibition in 2022, a large-scale physical show, which ran for two months during 2023, took place at The Umbrella Arts Center in Concord, MA (USA) featuring:

40+ Physical Artworks
40+ Digital Artworks
27 International Artists
9 Outreach Events
5 Themed Spaces
5 Screening Areas
3hrs+ Digital Screenings
2 Live Performances

Points of Return—a collection of artistic interpretations depicting the velocity and impacts of climate change—is both original and timely, deciphering science while offering indelible insights into the gathering storm that faces humanity. The combination of art and science is an innovative way to engage all ages in a civic discussion about what actions need to be taken, by our generation and our successors.
— Brian Rosborough, founder of Earthwatch

The project features works that illustrate some of the key issues we face as we approach what many describe as a “point of no return”. As exhibition visitors progressed through the gallery in Concord, they encountered climate tipping points, but also opportunities which may allow us to turn away from so-called runaway climate change. The film below takes us through the gallery and five themed spaces: Eclipse, Heat, Retreat, Ground and Return; following a creative narrative from despair to optimism.

As plans to tour the exhibition develop, we have spent the last few months building a comprehensive webpage, offering both summary & background information on the overall project. Communication from exhibition venues is welcomed.

Inspiring, questioning, hopeful.
